Overview
The miniature vortex flowmeter consists of a vortex generator, a frequency detector, a signal converter, etc., and outputs a 4-20mADC signal or pulse voltage signal. Its working principle is to set up vortex generators in the fluid, and generate regular vortices alternately from both sides of the vortex generators. This type of vortex is called the Karman vortex train.

Working principle of miniature vortex flowmeter:
The vortex flowmeter consists of a vortex generator, a frequency detector, a signal converter, etc., and outputs a 4-20mADC signal or pulse voltage signal. Its working principle is to set up a vortex generator in the fluid, and generate regular vortices alternately from both sides of the vortex generator. This type of vortex is called a Karman vortex array, as shown in the schematic diagram of Karman vortex array in Figure 1. The vortex array is asymmetrically arranged downstream of the vortex generator. According to extensive experimental evidence, there is a relationship between the frequency f, flow velocity v, and diameter d of a single-sided vortex generated by a vortex generator: f=Sr × v/d (1)
In equation (1), Sr is the Strouhal number. Since Sr is a function of Reynolds number, it is derived that Qv=A. X V=A. ×d/Sr×f=Σf(2)
In equation (2): A. is the flow cross-sectional area; ∑ is the instrument constant.
According to the above equation, it can be known that when the Strouhal number Sr is constant, the flow rate Qv is directly proportional to the frequency f generated by the single-sided vortex.
So, by using a detection element to measure the frequency of the vortex, the flow rate of the fluid can be calculated.
