Experimental results have shown that under the action of alternating loads, defects and inclusions in in-service ferromagnetic workpieces will undergo magnetic domain normalization and leakage magnetic fields will appear on them. In areas where defects are located and/or internal stresses are relatively concentrated, the metal's magnetic permeability is low, and its tangential component of the magnetic field has a large value, while the normal component changes sign and has a zero value. Scanning and detecting the normal component of the leakage magnetic field on the surface of the workpiece can determine the stress concentration area, thereby indirectly determining whether there are defects in the ferromagnetic workpiece. The equipment also has digital eddy current detection function, which can be used for detecting welds with anti-corrosion coating and base metal cracks, as well as measuring crack depth.
