Structural characteristics of new beam transport vehicles

The overall structure of a beam transport vehicle is the same as that of a cargo truck, consisting of an engine, chassis, body (cab), and electrical equipment. However, due to the need for towing operations on the beam transport vehicle, different requirements have been put forward for certain assemblies and components, especially for semi-trailer beam transport vehicles and on-site beam transport vehicles.

1. Overall chassis layout

Compared with ordinary trucks, semi-trailer beam transport vehicles have a shorter wheelbase and a larger load at the traction seat.

2. Transmission system

The transmission system of a beam transport vehicle is basically the same as that of a cargo truck. But there are also hydraulic couplings and torque converters installed between the clutch and transmission to ensure smooth starting. Due to the high driving force of heavy-duty beam transport vehicles, a two-stage main reducer is often used. Some also use dual speed main reducers and wheel side reducers.

3. Braking system

The braking system of the transport truck is basically the same as that of the cargo truck, with the difference being that the transport truck is equipped with pneumatic braking pipelines, emergency braking pipelines, start control pipelines, and air pipe joints for delivering compressed air to the trailer. In addition, a handbrake valve is installed in the cab, which can directly control the trailer braking. In order to improve braking performance, some beam transport vehicles are equipped with load sensing valves at the rear axle to improve the reasonable distribution of braking force between axles.

4. Suspension system

The suspension of a beam transport vehicle is basically the same as that of a cargo truck, but some beam transport vehicles use independent suspension or wider and thicker steel plate springs than ordinary cargo trucks to improve performance and adapt to heavy load requirements. For double rear axle transport vehicles, almost all rear suspensions currently use semi elliptical steel plate spring balanced suspensions.

5. Car frame

The frame is relatively short, and the rear of the main frame longitudinal beam is slightly strengthened due to bearing several loads from the traction seat. The arrangement of the crossbeam should also be considered accordingly.

6. Driving system

A semi-trailer beam transport vehicle with a towing capacity of 16 tons or more is developed as a dedicated chassis for the driving system.

7. Electrical system

Lead out a seven level electrical connector on the beam transport vehicle to connect with the seven pin plug of the trailer, which can transmit electrical signals to the trailer.

Classification of beam transport vehicles

1. According to the hanging method

A car (truck or beam transport vehicle) that pulls a full trailer is attached with a towing hook and a hanging ring.

A beam transport vehicle that pulls a semi-trailer is connected by a towing seat and a towing pin.

2. According to the driving type

The 4 × 2 type beam transport vehicle has relatively low traction and is mostly used for high-speed trains,.

The 6 × 4 type beam transport vehicle can increase the load-bearing capacity at the traction seat.

The 6 × 6 type beam transport vehicle has a large load-bearing capacity, strong traction, and strong climbing ability, and is generally used for larger * * vehicles.

8 × 8 type beam transport vehicle, used for heavy-duty vehicles, generally used for large * * * vehicles.

3. By purpose

Beam transport vehicles can be divided into cargo transport vehicles, semi-trailer transport vehicles, and on-site transport vehicles according to their purposes.

Freight transport truck: It is used for both traction and cargo transportation, and is used for fully trailer trains or special trailer trains.

Semi trailer beam transport vehicle: only used for traction, used for semi-trailer trains, with a traction seat installed on its frame to support and tow the semi-trailer.

On site beam transport vehicles: used in airports, railway platforms, ports and docks, etc., can tow semi trailers or full trailers.

Maintenance and upkeep of new beam transport vehicles

In addition to some important matters during safe transportation and regular abnormal inspections, the beam transport vehicle also needs regular maintenance and necessary checks on the condition of the vehicle.

1. Engine oil

Regularly pull out the oil dipstick and check that the oil level should not be lower than the lower line of the dipstick, nor should it exceed the upper line of the dipstick. Do not mix different brands and models of oil into the transport vehicle.

2. Tire

Usually, it is necessary to check the tire pressure of the beam transport vehicle more frequently. It is not good to have low or high tire pressure during driving. Generally, tires with deep tread patterns should be placed in front for steering.

3. Battery

Regularly check the electrolyte level of the beam transport vehicle battery.

4. Antifreeze fluid

Antifreeze should not be reduced. It should be added to the engine oil when the temperature is below 5 ℃ to prevent the diesel engine from cracking due to internal oil freezing.The daily inspection of engine oil, tires, batteries, antifreeze, as well as the inspection of the vehicle body and beams, and road conditions, filling out handover records, being meticulous and cautious, are the basic requirements that beam transport vehicle drivers should possess.
